I'm Sarah Klass and I'm an artist and designer in Brooklyn, NY. I am a graduate of Parsons the New School for Design where I majored in Integrated Design... which I'm sure doesn't mean a lot to you. Basically, it allowed me to study fashion, accessories, fine arts, printmaking, product design and photography. This broad education allowed me to find what I was truly passionate about, which is jewelry and accessories. In order to enhance my metal working abilities, I enrolled in the Comprehensive Jewelry Program at Studio Jewelers in NYC.
Along with my education, I have worked in art and design at such companies as Jennifer Miller Jewelry, Rent the Runway, Badgley Mischka, Exhibition A, Made Her Think, and Aesa.
In my own work, I focus on the inclusion of craft techniques and unusual materials into edgy and sophisticated designs. I have always been attracted to things with unique lines. I pull inspiration from wood grains, maps, aerial photography, oil-slick designs, cosmic images, and other natural formations. Even though I take my inspiration and design very seriously, I think it's really important to have a light hearted attitude. I like to take a whimsical and silly approach to my jewelry because that's what my personality is, and I want my work to be as honest and heartfelt as possible.
*Metals like copper and brass may change color over time. I feel that the change in finish adds character and a unique nature to the piece. Silver or brass pieces may be dipped in a polish or rubbed with a rouge cloth to remove tarnish if desired. Some people have a reaction to brass especially on rings. If you have a reaction to brass, I recommend wearing silver instead.
